Scott Kicks - Triple Threat (2019)

Triple the Threat, Triple the violence/fun/badddies.. something like that.  Can't tell from the cover art but you'd think Scott Adkins was part of that threat.  He is not!  But certainly, he can threaten. That's actually a pretty good cover montage.  Can it live up to the cover?!  Let's find out.

A bunch of guns for hire massacre a village thinking they're somehow stopping drug dealers.  A few "good" mercenaries realize they've been duped while one a victim Jaka seeks revenge for his wife, who got popped in hail of machine gun fire by one of the "good" guys Chinese fellow Long Fei.  His mercenary compatriot is the Tony Jaa, aka Mr. Ong Bak-super-tracker-local jungle expert named Payu.  Jaka enlists the "good" guys Long Fei and Payu.  The Triple Threat is revealed as three Asian dudes in an English-language picture!  Shut up, you say.  Three Asian dudes in the lead?!  Don't worry, because Brit Scott Adkins is hot on their tail as well as some generic baddies and Michael Jai White!  I don't know who that is but there's also a female baddie Mook who holds her own against all this testosterone by... being as tough as possible.  Later she gets exploded.

Scott is trying to stop the TRIPLE THREAT before they reveal a vast conspiracy, with a shadowy woman somehow directing all this madness.  They play cat and mouse throughout urban Thailand.  Scott mostly punches and shoots people.  I sure hope the TRIPLE got paid since they clearly saw marketing potential with a Thai dude, Chinese dude, and er... I think Payu might be Indonesian.  Scott is international, so there.  Ka Ching!

It was fun seeing some Asian dudes hold their own against the baddies, and you want victimized Jaka to kick some ass, even though he is way out of his league for the most part.  Also, a trench coat might look cool but if you're short and up against Euro-dudes, isn't it kind of a bad idea?  Trench coats are for tall people!

What was I saying?  OK, decent action, nothing to wow you.  Typical SE Asian scenery and Scott attempting to chew the scenery on generic dialogue about getting the job done, you-better-listen-tome, and don't worry, and blah blah.  Scott and his compatriots storm a police station and massacre everyone.  The Thai police are clearly no match for this mini-army.

It all culminates in a showdown in an abandoned mansion.  You'll be tired by the end, thinking, when is Scott going to kick?  For goodness sake Scott, please kick someone!  And then... it happens!  All of the sudden Scott is up against Tony Jaa and it's like "Damn, I'm Scott and I better raise my kicking game!  This Tony Jaa, he's actually a pretty bad ass Muay-Thai and while he can't act for crap except looking intense, he does it pretty well.  I am now... prepared... to kick!"  So there you have it.  Scott Kicks, the baddies perish, and our Asian dude walk into a sunny Thai morning.  Time to head to the beach!
