Peter Weller has an amazing, angular face. This is the man who became Robocop! Here in Adventures Weller is Buckaroo, a many of many talents: surgeon, musician, scientist, lover, fighter, dreamer, and social magnet. Buckaroo may exemplify what many of us dream of being - a dilettante - able to try and succeed at anything. Just like Buckaroo can be anything, this movie is basically every genre: romance, science fiction, adventure, drama, and western. Of course, you can't do all of those things at the same time and expect to succeed right? Well, that's ok since what the movie lacks in cohesion and character development, it makes up for in charm. Buckaroo oozes creativity from its silly characters, set-design, costumes, special effects, and the sincerity of the performances. The 8th Dimension is just one episode in Buckroo's serial, for which we can only all the films that came before and after. An amazing ensemble includes: Jeff Goldblum, Jon Ligthgow, Ellen Barkin, Clancy Brown and more. These people are bad asses! It must have been a riot of a film to make. Even at the end all the characters are brought back to life, walking in a chorus line across the LA River! Director WD Richter went on to write the equally charming Big Trouble in Little China. I watched all the extras and hearing how the film became a cult classic was inspiring. Despite being an poorly marketed flop for the studio, the movie founds its audience over the years, especially amongst college kids. The talking-head interviews are indicative of the passion that went into the film.
